Colour Management

The implementation of a multitude of different technologies and colour systems in printing has created a need for keeping continuity between print runs, across several processes; especially for the UK's leading Label Printer.

Everything starts with artwork on a RBG (Red/Green/Blue) screen, and ends in CMYK (Cyan/Magenta/Yellow/Key) or spot colours.

It is important to note the RGB colour model is an additive colour model in which red, green, and blue light is added together in various ways to reproduce a broad array of colours. RGB is used in displays, as the 'blank' colour is black. In contrast the CMYK colour model, in which the 'blank' colour is white; as is the base label substrate in a print run.

Whether label runs as high or low quantity, they all receive the same colour management practices. Use of international standard values of the Commission d"Eclairage (CIE) in conjunction with LAB and CIELAB allow direct comparison of lightness in the colour space.

The various finishing options available can give a slightly different perception of colour, contact INSIGNIA for free label samples. Depending on the print process (digital, flexographic etc) determines the options available to you. Common options are UV Gloss & Matt Varnishes, Matte and Gloss Lamination and Hot/Cold Foil. Contact us with your needs we are here to help.

PantoneĀ® spot colours are often used in label designs, for most large runs we can match these colours exactly., however when printing digitally these colours will be converted via a CMYK formula guide. Matches sometimes cannot be exact due to the halftone dot matrix used in 4 colour process printing.

When colour matches are imperative to your brand, we can produce Production Press Proofs. Production Press Proofs are printed on the material you have specified, allowing you to fully assess how your labels will come out in CMYK process colours. Alternatively if you provide us with other printed media you would like to match to, we can ensure a perfect match before your job goes to production.
